| | We have had many interests through the years, some have kept our attention, some haven't. Now that we are nearing our retirement, we find that our interests are wide and varied but seem to have narrowed to just a few that keep us occupied. Motorcycles - Dutchman loves motorcycles and has been riding them for over 35 years. Slinky never acquired the desire to drive but has enjoyed riding the many miles behind him. Right now it is a 2002 Harley Davidson Road King Classic that carries them around the country. There is a long list of bikes they have ridden ranging from a pieced together hard-tailed shovel-head that took a year to put together to the nice scooter they have now. It's been fun and until a recent run-in with a hit-and-run driver, very fulfilling. Dutchman got hit on the way to work in Sept '06 and hospitalized with pretty severe injuries to his chest and hip. He was knocked off his bike at 70 mph by someone that chose not to stop and see what damage was done. He has recovered fortunately and his bike has been repaired. They are both back out there! - Travel - They have both enjoyed travel through the years and have been fortunate to travel extensively throughout the United States and recently lived and traveled in Europe for two years. They started their travel in the US when they were first married in the '60's and have continued to this day having visited most of the states in the US. Dutchman's company sent him to Belgium and they lived there two years and were able to visit most of the Western European countries while there. What an enjoyable time. Here are links to some photos where they lived:
- Computers - Dutchman started playing with computers in the early 80's as a hobby and turned it into a profession after going back to school and getting some formal training. Both of them spend a lot of their spare time doing things that involve using the computer. Of course Dutchman uses them in his work for FLOTOM as a Software Engineer and spends a lot of time maintaining various web sites, learning new techniques, surfing for fun and maintaining the home network. Slinky retired from work a few years back and has devoted a lot of her time to getting to know all of her friends around the world much better through the computer. With her fight with cancer has come a lot of computer time learning about Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCL) and meeting others with similar plights.
- Car Racing - Dutchman spent many years of his life working and playing with cars and during his younger years raced them. Now he follows the sport avidly and spends a lot of time watching cars go around in circles at a high rate of speed. Slinky hasn't acquired a taste for car racing over the years but she does enjoy being with Tom so you will probably find her at the track also.
