Are a happily married couple that have been together since December, 1966. They were fortunate to have one child who now has a beautiful wife and three wonderful children that give them much pleasure when they are together. In their younger years, Dutchman purchased a truck and hauled produce and freight as an independent trucker and needed a name for his company. That is where the original FLOTOM Enterprises originated and although that company only lasted 4 years before the fuel costs of the 1970's drove him out of business, they have kept the name and used it for their many 'enterprises' since that time. Most recently, some will remember a bulletin board service that was active prior to the popularity of the internet named FLOTOM Enterprises which moved a large portion of the FidoNet and other networks packet mail around the world. Dutchman ran a multi-line BBS from his home in Manchaca, Tx which offered many services including file downloads, email services, games and technical information for new and existing users of computers. This BBS was in service from 1988 through early 1995 when time as well as financial considerations caused him to take the system out of service. The FLOTOM Enterprises name was also used when Slinky was making and delivering over 100 loaves of homemade specialty bread each week. All done at home in a non-commercial environment which meant a lot of love went into her labor. She had a steady growing list of customers and may have turned the business into a larger operation but gave it all up to follow Dutchman back to Texas in 1977 and start a new life there.
Unfortunately, in December 2006, Slinky was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer. It was a great shock to all of us since she didn't smoke. We have learned that smoking isn't the ONLY cause of lung cancer and research and development on that particular form of cancer lags far behind others. Slinky was given less than 6 months to live but has been very fortunate to have some of the best Oncologist in the nation working with her. She has undergone radiation therapy on the 9 tumors found in her brain, chemo-therapy for the 5 centimeter tumor in her lung and was chosen to be a part of an experimental drug therapy that has been very successful in extending her life. She is still fighting the cancer demon with all her might and although life has changed for her, she is glad to be alive and looks forward to each new day.
FLOTOM Enterprises has now embarked on a new endeavor. Dutchman has over 20 years experience as a Software Engineer and Systems Analyst, so we have now switched to Software Development and Maintenance as our primary goal. We are developing custom software for clients across the US and offering our service to maintain and upgrade existing custom programs. Working from our home office has allowed Dutchman to spend time with his love of 40 years and still make enough to pay the enormous costs of cancer treatment and the rising cost of living we all face right now.
